Three people were found and rescued by helicopter after becoming stuck in mud.

Coastguard teams, firefighters and ambulance crews were called to Marine Walk, Hayling Island, Hampshire, on Tuesday at about 20:30 BST.

Firefighters and coastguards put down mud paths for Selsey and Portsmouth Mud Rescue Teams to reach the trio.

They were each winched off the mud to safety by the coastguard helicopter to a landing site set up near Hayling Coastguard Station where they were checked over.

All three were discharged at the scene by South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) paramedics, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service said.

The combined emergency teams said the rescue showed "the huge importance of all emergency assets being able to work together to save lives".

They also thanked the residents on Marine Walk who allowed their emergency vehicles to park and turn around on their drives.
